Today I thought I'd share some vintage views of Santa Claus, beginning with what I believe to be the oldest and working my way forward.
In Victorian times, there are frequent examples of St. Nicholas dressed in colors other than the traditional red suit:
An unusual Santa dressed in black:
Santa changed from almost normal weight and athletic, like the skiing Santa above, to roly-poly in the 1930's and 40's:
But unlike Victorian-era images, he was depicted as "jolly":
A 1950's Santa from a Christmas card:
Even when asleep, he seemed to be happy (especially on December 26th):
A Coca-Cola magazine ad featuring Santa Claus from the 1950's:
Images from the 60's and 70's are easy to spot because of the psychedelic colors:
What's your favorite era for Santa Claus and Christmas images?
Lovely post! I love the one with Santa asleep :)

Thank you! Im taking a break from blogging.....its hard to keep up with a blog after several years, so I decided to retire, at least for now. Im working on some home improvement projects that Ive been putting off for quite some time. It feels great to get my house cleaned and organized. My next goal is painting several rooms......
