Over the years I've bought and sold vintage yoyos by the thousands, but I'll admit right now I've never made a yoyo from scratch. I sell loose yoyos for crafting in my Etsy shop in bags of 100. For those of you that want to learn how to sew a yoyo, there's an easy tutorial HERE.
I've created many things with yoyos in the past, including yoyo covered pumpkins one autumn, yoyo flowers, and wreaths embellished with yoyos. For lots of fun yoyo ideas, visit my Pinterest board "Crazy for Yoyos."
Today I want to show you how I created a little "statement necklace" using some fabric yoyos, buttons, and other embellishments.
Materials and Tools Needed:
Assorted yoyos
Assorted buttons
Needle and thread
Felt
Miscellaneous embellishments (netting, crochet flowers, etc.)
Jewelry chain and clasp
Two ribbon end clamps
Basic jewelry making tools
Scissors
Fabric Tac Glue
E-6000 Glue
Directions:
Arrange your yoyos and buttons in a pleasing manner on top of your felt. Sew the pieces in place with the needle and thread, then cut out the piece with scissors.
You can make the pieces lay down more securely by using the Fabric Tac.
Next, grab two of the ribbon end clamps:
I like to put a dab of E-6000 glue inside of each clamp before attaching them to the felt piece. Squeeze hard when attaching the clamps to the felt with a pair of flat nose pliers:
Attach jewelry chain and a clasp. I like to create an asymmetrical look by using different beaded chain on each side:
Here is a second example that I made. I can see some of the felt backing, which is bothering me, so I'll be sure to trim it:
I'll be participating in the following link parties, so stop by if you have time: Make It Monday; Show and Tell Friday; Strut Your Stuff Saturday; Link Party Palooza; and Frugal Friday.
Love these yo-yo's used for a necklace.

I love how you've used different necklaces on each side. So pretty. I can't believe this is your first time at making yo-yo's! Thanks so much for sharing at the Make it Monday Party.
