Here's an easy craft tutorial that I've actually posted before, but today I've made some changes to the original. It's an inexpensive way to make a non-Christmas specific craft, something that you can keep out all winter in a bowl or in a winter tablescape. It's also a good example of up-cycling, especially if you can find old satin ornaments that are falling apart or have stains. Brand new styrofoam balls are so expensive, I like to find an alternative if possible. Another cheaper option are dollar store whiffle balls that come in bags of four. Much cheaper than styrofoam! But the most important item you need for this project is an old white "candlewick" bedspread. I found mine at a flea market for $12, which will provide enough fabric for many snowballs.
Materials and Tools Needed:
Candlewick bedspread fabric torn into 1.5" strips
Whiffle balls, styrofoam balls, or old ornament balls
Hot glue
Scissors
Mica flakes
Mod Podge for Fabric
Paintbrush
Directions:
Apply a blob of glue on the ball and press one end of the torn strip of fabric to it. Start winding the fabric around the ball until it is covered. You will want to touch up areas with the hot glue to keep them from lifting here and there. When you are satisfied that the ball has enough fabric, cut with scissors and glue the end down.
After you have all of the balls covered with fabric, get out your mica flakes and Mod Podge for Fabric. Apply the Mod Podge with a paintbrush to the balls somewhat lightly, then sprinkle mica flakes on them.
(Since I made many of them, I used a large shallow box and I rolled them around in the bottom of the box with a layer of mica flakes). Shake off excess mica flakes, and wait for Mod Podge to dry. You are done!
These snowballs won't melt!

Just found this idea of yours....I made mosaic ornaments from old dishes and wanted the sparkly thing going on so mixed sparkle dust into the Mod Podge and saved myself and extra step and some of the mess. I'm an up-cycler too and like your blog very much.
