Fall Finds and Unusual Vases

This fall has been full of wonderful treasures and some great surprises.  I've acquired many items through auctions and estate sales, and my "picker", my brother Mike, has nabbed some great stuff for me too, like this set of yellow ware mixing bowls:

Although there is no maker's mark, I know the mixing bowl set was made by McCoy because of the distinctive square bases.

At the auction I attended recently, I brought home some nice turned wood bowls:

These bowls are sometimes called "butter bowls" or "dough bowls":

Look at all of the knife marks in the bottom of the largest bowl.  You can tell it was well-loved:

I like this dusty rose color wool hat because of the little umbrella-like embellishments:

I think the "Cottage" sign will sell quickly because it's so charming.  Also pictured below is a Dresden plate quilt and a Shirley Temple book of paper dolls:

Besides auctions and estate sales, I peruse Craig's List regularly because I love to see what people are selling.  I bought this group of Staffordshire fairings from a lovely elderly woman who was preparing to move into assisted living and was selling some of her treasures.  These little trinket boxes are very old, probably manufactured in the mid to late 1800's:

I've been painting bottles and Ball jars to make vases this fall, which I've done before here and here.  I added a bit of crocheted lace to spiff up these gold painted jars:

Speaking of vases, I like to use unconventional items as vases, like old product tins:

The key to using old tins or other unusual items like baskets as vases is to place a plastic cup inside:

I'm also making lots of fun things from my vintage finds.  Today I'm staying home and having a creative Sunday.  Have you found some interesting treasures this fall or have you created something special?  I'm all ears....

Hello Mitzi,

I just love that hat, the colour is so pretty. The bowls you were very lucky with getting the whole set, especially interested in the square base, most unusual.Great idea to use the tins as vases.
Yesterday I was in a shop that sells old and new wares and one of the customers wanted to here the Gramaphone, so the owner did as asked. Listening to old time music took me back to childhood watching black and white tv and the musicals that were on tv.
