I've mentioned before that I sell antiques at two antique malls here in Michigan, and within one of them, The Antiques Market of Williamston, I sell out of the ladies' restroom, a rather well-travelled place. I always try to keep certain things in stock there, such as wall art, mirrors, and a few knick-knacks. Last week my "picker", a.k.a. my brother Mike, came back from an auction with the ultimate ladies' bathroom accessory: a vintage Kotex Sanitary Napkin display:
I love the image of the nurse. Do medical personnel really need to get involved in the menstrual cycle? I guess we used to think so....
On the other end of the display, there's a helpful explanation of the Kleenex "Serv-a-Tissue" box, something we are all accustomed to now, but at the time probably seemed like a clever invention:
Kleenex was a company that successfully replaced cloth hankies with their disposable sheets. "Get the Kleenex Habit" was an effective ad campaign. Many use the term "Kleenex" and "tissue" interchangeably. I know I do. That's an advertiser's dream!
I should thank my picker for going the extra mile here. He's had to bid on and carry around prom dresses, teddy bears, dolls, and now a sanitary napkin display for me. How can I ever repay him?

Hi Sharon,
Yes, I remember a time Mike and I were at an auction where there were auctioneers taking bids in the front yard and back yard. I told him bid on those prom dresses for me! Later in the day, I see him proudly walking past all these good old boys carrying a bunch of fluffy prom dresses. So funny!
Enjoy the beautiful day, and thanks for visiting!

Your brother must be good at biting his lip and ignoring snide remarks, but he IS good! I love to pick and envy his job, but I'd pick for myself! I just have to have everything! Now he needs to find you a panty hose dispenser, and a perfume sprayer with different scents, and all the other doodads we like to carry. I'm sure they're out there. Selling from a ladies' room? Hm.
The eye is better but I need more zaps in about 2 weeks. Makes your eye feel like a pressure cooker with the heat too high and the weight too heavy! Don't worry- I'm too mean to go anywhere! You are a sweetheart!

Your brother's a keeper! I've never seen anything like that stand (but I'm sure I'll never forget it!)

Hi Barbara,
Yes, my big brother is the best! He brought me a wonderful Punch and Judy marionette set-up once, a one-of-a-kind thing. It reminded me of the one they used in the Sound of Music!
I hope you find something wonderful this weekend!

Mitzi, Did your brother know beforehand that this treasure was at the auction or did he just see it and KNOW that you would have to have it? I don't think my brother would go as far as prom dresses for me but he has been known to pick up girly things on my behalf. He has accompanied me to doll shows on our way to do car stuff. I guess we are just lucky to have such special sibings!
Have a wonderful weekend!
