Meet my Westies, short for West Highland White Terriers. I have a female, Chauncey, and male, Cheswick. They have the same father, but were born a year apart. The Westie is a special breed, and I thought I'd share some of the characteristics of these affable terriers according to some newly published and little-known AKC guidelines (wink).
Westies like to insert themselves into photos whenever possible:
They often pee when you are conducting outdoor photo shoots.....
They stick their noses into everything. In the picture below, Cheswick comes face to face with a vintage Halloween Woody Woodpecker mask:
They'll show off for the camera by striking a yoga pose. Here we have Cheswick demonstrating the "Flying Dog":
They demand to be noticed by staring at you with a penetrating gaze.....
Both males and females make excellent "blog dogs". They will sit at your feet while you work on the computer.....
But they crap out under the work table around 5:00 p.m.
They crave affection, but dole it out generously too:
They're always ready to go for a walk:
They're happy to keep an eye on the neighborhood throughout the day, free of charge:
They think everything their owner does is fascinating:
Westies enjoy watching TV, but they tend to get sleepy during the news:
The males tend to be fearful of thunder, hence the "Thundershirt" Cheswick is wearing:
Westies practically beg to be sprayed with the hose:
They like getting all wet! They think the hose is a giant snake that spits out water.
There's always one lurking in the background, keeping an eye on you......
It was recently discovered that Westies are completely tone deaf. Therefore, they won't file a compaint with the Music Police when their owner sings off-key to them.
They'll curl up by a roaring fire and listen to their owner belt out show tunes, product jingles and pop ditties for hours on end, without complaint!
And they are the best companions anyone could have!
I realize that mutts are just as capable as Westies of being good pets. When there is a future vacancy at our house, it will be filled by either be a pound hound or a Westie rescue.
Do you have a particular breed, mix or mutt you would like to brag about? I'm all ears....

Aw! So adorable...we have been dogless for 3 years. We have enough cats, goats and my donkey to keep us busy and loved, but i do miss having a dog. They look very happy and well loved. Maybe someday we will get another dog and will keep westies in mind! Enjoy the snow!

They are so adorable. We have a cat but have thought about a dog later on when we are home more.

Annette,
Whether its a cat or dog, every blogger has to have a companion to keep her company.

Hi Sharon,
Ive always had a thing for goats, but they probably would have a hard time curling up on the couch next to me. I hope you can find a nice dog to add to your menagerie sometime in the near future!

Gee, thanks Bev! Ill bet Clyde has some special charms. Cats just arent as silly as dogs. They are more composed.

I have a lovely Maltese for 8 years, and recently adopted a mutt of five years who is hungry 25 hours a day.
Congratulations on your cute! These pictures are fascinating.
The Maltese is a companion dog, dog alert and grazing so it puts everything in order in the house - I had seven cats when he arrived and he put them all upstairs in the house!
You made a great choice! I do not know how are westies ears? the Maltese requires great care with it. (google translator). I love the last picture! Love, Dani

Hi Daniela,
Westie ears are fine. My parents have a Maltese named Jezebel, and she has ear problems. Shes so cute! We love her. The Maltese fur is harder to keep clean that the Westies.
Thanks so much for writing today. I think animal lovers are special people!

We have a westie too
You are right on with those personality traits
Gordie is our second westie, he keeps us entertained for hours, but really dislikes the mail people and he can hear a ups truck as it turns the corner!

Hi Deborah!
We have so much fun with our crew! Our friends just had to put their only Westie down, a 14-year old. They were heartbroken, and didnt know what to do. A couple days ago they announced they got a new Westie puppy! Im so happy for them. They dont have children, so Im sure their house was silent and sad without their beloved dog. Now its going to be a happy Christmas for them after all!
Thanks for stopping by my blog at such a busy time of year. Enjoy your holidays with your wonderful Westie!

Love the pics of your Westies! I have one too, Bayly. He also loves the water from the hose and has a Thundershirt. He is quite the character. Susan

Hi Susan!
I love to meet a fellow Westie owner! Im sure Bayly is a character.....I havent met a Westie that isnt!
Our friends lost their beloved Westie of old age a month before Christmas. Of course, they were devastated. Everyone told them to consider getting another dog, and just in time for Christmas, they took in a Westie rescue. The previous owner described the dog as poorly behaved and a nuisance. Well, I met the dog two weeks ago. Shes a total angel! They love Fiona, and she is so well behaved in her new home! I took pictures of Fiona and her new parents, and they turned out great. What a great outcome for both the dog and my friends.....
Thank you so much for writing!

You perfectly described my two westies, Gus and Ruby! They are even half siblings with the same father, two years apart!

Hi Julie,
Its great to meet another Westie owner! Its amazing that I described your puppies too! We started with just one, but after a year we had to get a second to keep the first one company....
Thanks for taking the time to write to me!

O I envy your Westie relationship. I can't wait to retire and get a dog. I have been watching for a local Westie rescue between now and the retirement date just in case one pops up. Your Westie pals are just so adorable. A well trained dog companion is such a delight!

Hi kcz,
We bought our Westies as puppies, but our next one will be a rescue. I think you will love your Westie. They have the best personalities.....I cant recommend them highly enough!
Thanks for stopping by today and taking time to leave a comment. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
