One of my all time favorite antique stores is Lambs' Gate in Grand Ledge, Michigan. It's in a great old building in downtown Grand Ledge, about 10 miles due West of downtown Lansing. Lambs' Gate is primarily a consignment store, with wares from over 100 consignees artfully arranged by Carol Lamb, the proprietor. Upstairs is more cool stuff in The Salvage Yard, picked by Ruth Creyts, the owner of the building and another dealer with great artistic flair. There's so much to share, so let's start out with a few pics of the storefront and back entrance, respectively:
What's more inviting that a big sign that says "Antiques"? I can't think of anything!!!! There's so much eye candy inside this store that you can lose yourself for hours. The building itself lends itself to this type of store because it has ridiculously high ceilings, even upstairs. There are layers and layers of lovelies everywhere you look. Ruth and Carol make sure they have all of the necessary supplies for the ever-increasing number of crafters looking for vintage raw materials. There are baskets full of typepress letters, scrabble tiles, game pieces, paper ephemera, bowls of buttons, and on and on!
Lambs' Gate has a wide range of wares, from Victorian to 1970's chic, but it all works together in this awesome store! Here are a few more pics:
During this particular "field trip" I purchased a couple colorful camp blankets and some adorable Kewpie motif tea towels, one for each day of the week. I was also pleased to discover that Lambs' Gate has an awesome website, which you can visit here.
I really need to visit this store more often! Their stock changes quickly, and I have purchased some really fabulous things from them over the years. And the best thing about Lambs' Gate.......the prices are very reasonable! Who doesn't appreciate that?
